August 30 Update - Thankful

Our mighty fighter boy! Hudson got some time free of his IV pole this evening and we took full advantage. It was good for my soul to see him running and jumping in the hall, throwing balls and chasing them down. I had an overwhelming feeling of immense gratitude that he is still able to do all these things - that he hasn’t had any loss of function or change in his abilities so far in this journey. What an incredible blessing. Thank you, Jesus.

August 30 - Hard Week

Hudson (nap time) update: We’re still hanging out at Children’s, waiting for his white count to come up. This morning his ANC is still 0, so we haven’t seen much progress yet. Hopefully once it starts coming up it will rebound quickly! He is supposed to start a high dose of the medication to stimulate his bone marrow for pheresis tomorrow, so that should help.

August 28 - Hospital Update

Hudson had his first ambulance ride up here on Monday night and was apparently so excited that he only slept for around 15 min of the trip. This made for an interesting Monday night - because he arrived at Children’s around 11:30pm, so by time they got all his assessment and labs done for admission, he didn’t settle in to sleep until around 1:30am!

August 26 - Back to the Hospital

Hi all, us again. Hudson spiked a fever after waking up from his nap today. This isn’t terribly surprising since his immune system is nil after his chemo. We’re in the ER at St. Francis waiting for his transfer to SLCH. They’ve drawn his labs and blood cultures and started him on antibiotics.

August 24 - We are Home

We are home! Hudson and I made it home on Thursday afternoon, after he received his last chemo med and got his dressing for his central line changed. We are settling in at home, trying to stay organized with all his daily meds and line care. Hudson continues to have some nausea and occasional vomiting, but overall he is doing great! He enjoyed a day with Grandma and Grandpa yesterday so I could return to work. We’re enjoying a quiet weekend at home as a family!

August 21 - Midweek Update

12:30pm - UPDATE: just got the official word that his CSF from his lumbar puncture was clear!!! No disease found!!! THANK YOU, JESUS!

12:00pm - Overall, Hudson has had a pretty good week and has been sleeping better at night. Last night they had to increase his fluids due to blood in his urine, (side effect of one of his chemo meds) so they had to do a UA (and therefore a diaper change) every 2 hours, but he was able to settle back to sleep pretty well. Hudson’s also been feeling more puny and nauseous this morning, with a few episodes of vomiting so far. We are trying to keep it under control with his antiemetic meds. He’s had some fun this week, too - playing in the playroom and garden and with PT, OT, and music therapy, meeting and playing catch with some baseball players, and romping around the halls in his “pink car” and “blue twuck”.
